Inevitability of the Plan

Out of the democratic unrest, out of the present turmoil and chaos, will arise the future world condition which will have for its keynote co-operation and not competition, distribution, and not centralization.

The Inevitability of the Divine Plan

As of October 2013, nearly a year after the Mayan calendar ended on December 21st, 2012—which some say marks “the Biggest Non Event in History”—many have lost faith in the possibility of meaningful change on our planet.  They see a world in chaos, teetering on the brink of war and economic collapse, and say, “Nothing has changed.”  Selfishness and greed run rampant.  A global corporatocracy1 continues to perpetuate the advancement of the few at the expense of the many.  “A stateless global archipelago of privilege,” as Ravi Bhandari2 has called it, appears bent on controlling the world.

Many people in the mass media, political parties, and religious institutions have succumbed to a one-pointed, fanatical quest to achieve worldly success at the expense of others.  The world appears off course, divorced from higher ideals, headed for disaster.  The hoped for emergence into a new era of light and global interdependence envisioned by many with the end of the Mayan calendar (12-21-2012) has not yet come to pass.  “Nothing appears to have changed.  It is only getting worse!”  So cry many idealists disillusioned that the long-anticipated change has failed to materialize.  It seems that the globalization of capitalism and a worldwide plutocracy—without national boundaries or loyalties—is here to stay.

Is this true?  Has the vision been lost?  Are we now on the brink of a much feared “new world order” in which a tiny global elite dominates all the peoples of the nations?  Or is there still cause for hope that a new world of beauty, harmonious interdependence, and divine order can be realized?  Has the ideal of a future based on cooperation and sharing been ified or has it simply been delayed pending the breakdown of a predatory system?

The Ageless Wisdom teachings assure us of the ultimate success of the Divine Plan in the Aquarian age—the new era of universality now emerging.

The new era is…upon its way, and nothing can prevent that which the stars decree and which the Hierarchy of guiding Minds consequently foresee.3

The vision in men's minds today is that of the Aquarian Age, even if they recognise it not.  The future will see right relationships, true communion, a sharing of all things…economic satisfaction…and goodwill…

…we have…a picture of the future of humanity when all nations are united in complete understanding and the diversity of…traditions, cultures, civilisations and points of view…will provide no barrier to right human relations.4

With these words the Tibetan master, Djwhal Khul, presents what he calls “a little of the wonder of the Aquarian Age.”5  It is a vision of unprecedented human possibility, which millions across the world have already embraced in some real measure.  Yet it appears thwarted by the “forces of materialism.”

Interestingly enough, the Tibetan commented on a similar situation during the period of World Wars in which he related the incoming seventh ray6 energies associated with the emerging Aquarian era with the fulfillment of prophecy.  In the same section of Esoteric Psychology (published in 1936) where he affirmed “nothing can prevent that which the stars decree” he made the following statement:

The new executives who will succeed the present dictators and powers will take over the control towards the year 1955, and they will be seventh ray aspirants and disciples in the majority of cases; their capacity towards integration and towards fusion along right lines will then rapidly bring about the needed international understanding.7

We might assume that among the prophesied “new executives” were John F. Kennedy and Dag Hammarskjold.  Kennedy served as a United States Senator from 1953-1960 and as President from ‘60-‘63.  Hammarskjold served as Secretary-General of the United Nations from 1953 to 1961.  Both were high idealists.  Both had a significant impact upon the world and both died suddenly in the early 1960s.  Kennedy was assassinated and Hammarskjold died under suspicious circumstances in a plane crash.8  The world integration and international understanding envisioned by the Tibetan were clearly affected by the deaths of such individuals and other world leaders of their time.

Students of history may someday examine in detail other events occurring after the Great War9 that temporarily derailed the plans of the Hierarchy.  It would be fascinating to understand the happenings that may have changed the course of history.  We do not know precisely what the Tibetan had in mind when he made the prophetic statement above,10 but we do know that he anticipated the possibility that his prediction might not come to pass.  He sensed the skepticism in the minds of the disciples to whom he was making these remarks and told them:

The question emerges in your mind as to whether such a prophecy [that 7th Ray disciples will rise to power] will indeed be fulfilled; and if unfulfilled, will not that fact militate against much that I have said and prove me unreliable?11

He answered that question by pointing out the difference between predicting what “ought to be,” i.e., identifying what is destined to occur over the course of time, and successfully foretelling the exact time in which a prophecy will be fulfilled.  He worded his answer precisely:
Let me answer this question by pointing out that those of us who foresee that which may and ought to be are nevertheless well aware that though the fulfillment of the prophecy is inevitable, yet the time factor may not work out as indicated.12

He explained why this must be so, pointing out…
Failure…[to realize the vision] will rest upon the shoulders of the world aspirants and disciples…[not on] misinterpreted astrological conditions.13

He asserted that his reading of the stars was correct, pointing to the fallibility of human nature as the possible impediment.  Spiritual workers, he said…
…are permitted to have the general outline of their task committed to them by their own souls, working under the inspiration of those great and liberated souls we call the Masters of the Wisdom, but there is no coercion under the Plan and no forced and dictated service.14

Human beings are fallible and, as a result, plans made by the Guides of the Race are not always brought to pass ‘on schedule.’  In the instance of the coming to power of a new kind of ruler, the Tibetan indicated that the World War had left spiritual workers in great distress and acknowledged that, as a result, they might fail to “react either correctly or at the right time.”15
These incoming seventh ray aspirants and disciples may make mistakes and may perform their undertakings in such a manner that delay may eventuate.16

“Delay may eventuate.”  Is this not what we are in fact experiencing today?  A delay in the cosmic plan due to the resistance of material forces—resistance to the inevitable triumph of good?   In light of what the Tibetan is telling us, could we not say that we are experiencing what Mary Bailey17 once called “the last ditch effort of the forces of materialism”?  If so, then what we are encountering—what we are asked to endure as material oligarchs continue to brandish power—is simply a delay in the implementation of the Divine Plan.  This plan will inevitably be fulfilled.  It is only a matter of time.

The vision of Aquarius lives on, unchanged by the tumult of the times.  The Masters of Wisdom Who guide the race—the Custodians of the unfolding Plan (enlightened teachers such as the Tibetan master)—gauge the future from a vast perspective.  They study the “stars in their courses,” examine great cycles of progress and growth, and view evolutionary trends on a planetary, solar, and cosmic scale. Yet even They cannot know the exact timing of future events. “The time is known only to the two or three…”18 the Master states about the reappearance of the Christ which, we are told, will follow the establishment by humanity of “right human relations” in the world.

The reason why the precise timing of future events is unknown has to do with the free will of human beings.  Every individual is free to choose what energy he or she will bring to a given situation—what force for good or ill he or she will engender in response to the events of the time.

Knowing this to be so, we would do well to recognize that although powerful oligarchies continue to amass power and worldly forces stubbornly resist evolutionary change, “God will not be mocked”…as the old-time religious preachers used to say.  The Piscean Age is passing away.  The “coming into power of the Aquarian Age…will make the new world order possible.”19  And, as the Tibetan goes on to say:

…the opportunity confronting humanity has never been so promising...the manifestation of the Sons of God and the appearance of the Kingdom of God [is] an inevitable happening in our planetary life.20

The Plan may be delayed, but it cannot be negated.  We are made “in the image of the Creator” so that we might actively participate in the evolutionary Plan.  We are all potential co-creators with divinity destined, in the course of time, to help bring the Kingdom of God into manifestation by learning to work together “under the inspiration of those great and liberated souls we call the Masters of the Wisdom.”21  We, who are awakening to the reality of the unseen worlds, must learn to sow the seeds of goodwill in the soil of consciousness.  Life within the seed (nurtured and held in the light of the soul) will inevitably bring the necessary transformation.  The Tibetan assures us of success:

Goodwill is contagious; once a definite start has been made in a pure and disinterested spirit, goodwill will permeate the world and right human relations will be rapidly established.22
