An enormous amount of energy—in the form of torrential winds and rains—was about to be unleashed by Hurricane Irene on the boarded up cities along the coast.  Since we were travelling inland, we stayed our course in the hope of learning about recent efforts to tap electromagnetic 'zero point energy'—free energy as it is commonly known.  Our interest was to explore the connection between free energy and the subtle substance known in esoteric teachings as etheric energy, the invisible force that vitalizes all living things.

We learned at the lecture that over a hundred pioneers in science and technology of the 20th century had invented devices to capture and generate electricity directly from “thin air.”  These devices could have been used to generate energy—at no cost—to fuel vehicles, to power households, businesses, and industrial plants, and to heal the physical body.  Potentially, such devices could have provided enough electricity to supply most human needs and virtually transform human living.  The only cost to the user would have been the energy-generating device itself.  Once  installed, it would transmit a continuous free flow of energy drawn “from the ethers.”

Almost none of these designs saw the light of day in the 20th century.  We learned that tragically, the inventors (such individuals as Nicola Tesla and Dr. T. Henry Moray) suffered greatly at the hands of corporations that controlled the energy markets.  Patents were confiscated.  Laboratories were destroyed by mysterious fires.  Inventors were mysteriously murdered.  No arsonists or murder suspects were ever found.  The picture painted by researchers is one of influential industrialists using every means at their disposal to protect fortunes amassed from energy systems dependent on the burning of fossil fuels.

Initially, some of the most powerful business tycoons in America believed there were substantial profits to be made from these ground-breaking inventions and invested in them.  When they realized that free energy could ultimately threaten their stranglehold on the energy sector, they cut off their funding.  Instead, they used their influence to block all patents involving the use of free energy.  From the early 1900s to the present, thousands of such patents had been filed and still remain unapproved.  The reason is clear.  Owners of copper mines, for example, want to prevent the development of machinery that transmits electricity without copper wires, utilizing only the Earth’s harmonic energy frequencies.

Humanity as a whole has paid dearly for the suppresion of free energy.  We’ve lived through a century of harrowing consequences of limited energy sources:  unceasing wars, the growing divide between rich and poor, the extinction of thousands of species of life, extreme environmental pollution, global warming and climate change—all related to the purported need for accelerating quantities of fossil fuels.  It’s disturbing to consider what might have been, had a free-flowing source of energy been available to stem the persistent evils of poverty, illiteracy, malnutrition and disease.

Imagine the state of our world had our species been ready to tap the harmonic energy frequencies that supply free energy.  But esoterically speaking, since consciousness precedes form, such readiness would require that a critical mass of human beings enter a harmonic state of consciousness—one in which the greatest good for the greatest number is the governing principle.  Our distance from that state is reflected in a world of mind-numbing violence fueled by unparalleled self-interest and greed.  As a race, we're still governed by the dictum of the instinctual man:  survival of the fittest.

The Ageless Wisdom explains that selfish behavior—of the scale that would willfully suppress unlimited free energy—is rooted in the profound ignorance of the dying material age.  People who believe they are material beings, separate and apart from other living beings, have no compunctions about inflicting harm on others in pursuit of material goals.  Their sole motive is to gain a competitive business advantage and accumulate greater wealth.  The hope of humanity lies in the spiritual awakening underway.  The realization that we are spiritual beings at our core, existing within a single, unbroken web of life, can have the power to change the material mind.

From a spiritual perspective, it is obvious that energy emanating from the planet’s etheric reservoir (a cousin to the zero point field of science) belongs to all living beings and should be made available to supply human need.  It seems appalling that technologies designed to tap the freely-circulating vital substance of life are still held hostage to corporate profits.  Yet, renewed interest in free energy on the part of scientists and inventors would seem to augur change.

There are signs of a shift in consciousness among advanced scientific thinkers.  They are especially visible among scientists investigating the zero point energy grid—the source of free energy.  A web search of free energy, zero point energy, and radiant energy (often used synonymously) bears this out.  Not surprisingly, however, resistance to zero point energy (ZPE) remains strong among conventional scientists.  Before a workable system of ZPE devices can be developed, according to a Wikipedia article, prevailing theories of thermodynamics would have to be radically altered.  To generate energy that literally comes from thin air would require a different view of electricity, natural systems and the universe.²
 
Just as quantum physicists discovered that old laws pertaining to dense physical reality do not apply to the quantum field, energy scientists are discovering new principles that will lead to radical change in “our whole cosmology,” as one researcher put it.
